A lovely little sit-on-top kayak for beach days and exploring slow-moving rivers, canals, and enclosed bodies of water. The Ocean Kayak Malibu 9.5 is short, stable, easy to paddle and also light enough to lift up onto a car roofrack. The Malibu 9.5 tracks extremely well in a straight line, thanks to its extended keel which acts like a full-length skeg; a great feature to have, especially on windy days.
The Malibu 9.5 has Old Town's integrated 'Air-Comfort' backrest system that allows for simple adjustment. The contoured, padded seat base helps to achieve a comfortable paddling position. Extra support is provided by moulded in footrests so any member of the family can jump onboard and take it for a spin.
The middle hatch is easy to open, even with cold fingers and contains a gear bucket to stop items rolling away into the depths of the hull. There are also open tank-wells in the bow and stern of the kayak for on-deck storage, and items can be kept in place using the on-board bungees. Finishing off the Malibu 9.5's features are scupper holes to let any water out of the seating area, 4x carry handles and 3x recesses designed to accommodate water bottles or handy snacks.
All in all, the Malibu 9.5 would make a great first kayak for individuals or families looking for a well-made sit-on-top that is easy to use, confidence inspiring and manufactured from the best materials and components for peace of mind.
